Overcomer - Look at the Ants!

Tuesday October 13

Proverbs 6:6-16
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
7 It has no commander,
   no overseer or ruler,
8 yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.
9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
11 and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.
12 A troublemaker and a villain,
who goes about with a corrupt mouth,
13     who winks maliciously with his eye,
   signals with his feet
   and motions with his fingers,
14     who plots evil with deceit in his heart—
   he always stirs up conflict.
15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant;
he will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.
16 There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
        a lying tongue,
       hands that shed innocent blood,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

The Proverbs represent a collection of the wisest sayings of all time.  Here we read several sayings about the importance of hard work and the dangers of laziness and carelessness.  Tough stuff!

Questions
So why is an ant a good example of industriousness?

How can you increase the energy in your walk with God without crossing into an unhealthy drivenness?

Prayer
Father God, I long to be a more passionate Christ-follower. Teach me the balance point between living at a careless and casual level and becoming over busy. I guess it looks like taking your easy yoke and walking through today's events at your pace. Help me Lord. Amen.

Memory Verse
Hebrews 6:10 --  "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them."

Gather some family and friends together and read this passage. Then discuss this question:  What are two or three ways we could take our Christian service up a notch?

DFM Nation
Next Sunday Pastor Glenn Teal will teach on the topic “Purity overcomes Lust.”  This is a great Sunday to invite a friend.  Pray for an open opportunity to do just that!
