Overcomer - Get moving!

Thursday  October 15

Romans 12:4-13
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Here as in so many of Paul’s New Testament letters the later chapters turn to practical application.  How do we live out the theological truths we have just read about in the previous 11 chapters?  In closing we get a lot of very active energetic advice.  Don’t just sit there reading this letter - do something!  Now!

Questions
Make a list of all the various actions that are recommended to us in this passage.

What are three of the actions listed here you need to work on today?

Prayer
Lord Jesus I can see that following you is active, not passive.  I know there are more quiet and thoughtful aspects of my relationship with you - but sometimes I just need to get up and get going.  Show me today exactly what that would look like.  By your grace alive in me may I be more fully alive and alert in my spiritual journey.  Amen.

Memory Verse
Hebrews 6:10 --  "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them."

Gather some family and friends together and read this passage. Then discuss this question:  In verses 11 and 12 there are many actions listed.  Which ones do we need to work on this week?

Next Sunday Pastor Glenn Teal will teach on the topic “Purity overcomes Lust.”  This is a great Sunday to invite a friend.  Pray for an open opportunity to do just that!
