If I had to choose one scripture text as the foundation for our new OVERCOMER series it would be 1 John 5:4-5. This is how it reads in the The Message: "Every God-begotten person conquers the world’s ways. The conquering power that brings the world to its knees is our faith. The person who wins out over the world’s ways is simply the one who believes Jesus is the Son of God."
In other words - we can win. Really! With God's Spirit alive within us - we can overcome the world.
Of course from the broader context of scripture and from the Christian experience of God's people - I know we're not talking about achieving some kind of sinless perfection. But I am convinced we can consistently 'win out over the world's ways.'

The question of course is how. How do we set ourselves up to win instead of sin?
According to this passage it all begins with faith. Personal saving faith in Jesus as the Son of God. Sometimes we forget the basics.
Today take some time to settle the matter of your saving faith. Have you trusted Jesus to be your Leader and Forgiver? Are you still trusting Him?

PRAYER: Lord Jesus today I remember who you are the one and only Son of God, Savior of the world. I reaffirm my faith in you as my Savior and Lord. Wash me clean. Hold me close. In this moment I confess that You alone are the source of my overcoming victory. Amen.
